What's up everyone. Andrew Pace here, Founder and CEO of inplayLIVE - coming at you today with another sports betting how to, where we're going to be teaching you how to sports bet.
And as a sports value analyst myself, I profit over six figures per season, betting on live sports, and we want to keep things real simple, continuing with the Sports Betting 101 series.
Today we're going to be talking all about over under in betting.
So what is an over under? How can we bet the over, how to bet the under, and everything associated with how the over-under is calculated in the world of sports?
So right out of the bat, what is the over under?
The over-under is the projected total for any given sporting event.
What that means is - Vegas and the sports books, come up with a whole series of simulations to determine the most likely final score in any given game. And regardless of which teams scores, those points, baskets, or goals, those go towards the total for the game.
Meaning if we have a hockey game where the over-under is five and a half goals, if there's six or more goals scored in the game by any team - then it goes over and went over for that game.
Whereas if there's five or less goals scored by any of the two teams that would then award the under as a winner.
The same can be said for football, with points, for basketball, with baskets, for soccer, with goals. And the list goes on and on.
So we're going to learn right now how to bet the over and how to bet the under - let's dive in.
(in the Betway Dashboard):
All right, everyone. Now that we've learned what the over under is. I'm logged in here on Betway, which is again, another staple book that we use at, inplayLIVE.
Betway is a great book to use if you're sports betting online in Canada, but whether your sports betting online in Europe or sports betting online in the United States, it really doesn't matter.
Pretty much every single sportsbook actually offers the over-under for any given game. So in this case, we're going to start with hockey.
I'm going to click over to the hockey menu here on Betway on the left, scroll down, and you can see the NHL. There's three games that are currently live right now.
So those are games that you can actually wager on - the events as they're happening, but we're actually going to scroll down to the Senators against the Flames. We're going to click on this game here.
And they've got a whole series of different options that you can wager from main markets, et cetera, et cetera. With Betway in particular, to wager the total or the over-under, we're going to click on goals and right out of the bat, you can see they have over six and under six available for us.
So when it comes to betting the over simply put, we're going to click on this and you can see over here over six that's right. Decimal odds of 2.05. So if you've seen our Sports Betting 101 on How to Bet the Moneyline, we used American odds. We're set up on decimal odds here. So 2.05 and decimal odds actually converts to plus 105 in American odds, which means that if I wager your $100, it's going to return me a profit of $105 back if we get seven goals or more in this particular case (since there isn't a half point, like an over five and a half or over six and a half).
That means that if it lands on exactly six, the goals, our wager is going to be returned to us, which is also called being void, being pushed or being node. So in this particular case, I'm going to go ahead and I'm going to bet the over in this game, uh, for $100, the wagers being placed and boom.
Wager place successfully. So I'm cheering for, regardless of who scores the goals, seven or more goals in the Calgary Flames, Ottawa Senators, and hopefully as a worst case, you know, they get to six goals and I at least get my bet back. So that's an example of betting the over. Now I'm going to go to a completely different sport and show you, you know, a sport like basketball.
There's way more points than there are goals in hockey. So heading over to basketball, I'm going to scroll down here. We see the NBA. And I'm going to click on the Phoenix Suns against the Milwaukee Bucks in this case. And now we see the main markets that are available to us. We're going to be looking at the total points.
So in the hockey game where we had 6.0 is the total, obviously there's a lot more scoring in the NBA. So the total in this game is set for 232.5 points. So since it has that 0.5, there's no chance of us. Pushing or knowing on our bet because we're not going to land on exactly 232 or 233 and have a push in this case.
All wagers will be settled. Now I want to teach you how to bet the under. So in order to be betting the under, we're just going to click on that, just like we did the over. And what do you know, just as I said, that the line moves. So that's something that can happen when you wager on sports. And now we have exactly 232, which again means that if it lands on 232, we're going to get our bet back.
But in the case of 231 and below, we will win on betting under in this particular case. So I'm going to go ahead. And put a hundred dollars on the under and hope that this Milwaukee Bucks against Phoenix Suns game is a real defensive battle. There's nothing more stressful in the world than cheering for an under because it seems like you've never won until it's done, whereas an over you can win earlier.
So from an entertainment standpoint, overs tend to be a lot more exciting to cheer for, and unders tend to be a lot more stressful to cheer for.
Anyhow we're going to go ahead and place that bet. And there you go. Bet placed successfully under 232 for the Milwaukee Bucks against the Phoenix Suns - cheering for a defensive battle.
I'm going to go over and click on my bets. And there you have the over in the Calgary Flames game and the Ottawa Senators game. And like I said, regardless of who scores. Calgary can score all seven goals for me to win. It can be four, three for me to win. It doesn't matter who scores. And then the under in the Milwaukee Bucks, Phoenix Suns game.
So again, I'm cheering for a low scoring affair.
And that is what it's all about in our sports betting 101, teaching you how to make very simple wagers, betting the over betting, the under, what is the over-under, that's what it's all about.
